Human approval is the control plane for enterprise AI
A practical guide to placing accountable human decisions around AI-prepared work without turning every workflow into a bottleneck.

Enterprise AI becomes governable when authority is explicit. AI can gather evidence, prepare drafts, and recommend a next action; an authorized human remains responsible for consequential decisions.
Start with consequence, not complexity
A workflow does not need approval simply because it uses AI. Approval should follow the impact of the action: external communication, financial commitment, access change, destructive operation, or a decision that affects a person.
- Name the accountable role for each protected action.
- Show the evidence and policy checks beside the recommendation.
- Record who approved, rejected, or changed the proposed action.
- Provide a reliable stop path before execution.
Design approval as an operating system
Approval is most useful when it is consistent across teams, visible in context, and preserved in an audit trail. That turns human oversight from an informal promise into a repeatable control.
